Northwest Texas County will celebrate the annual Roby Fair today (Sept. 6).
Organizers say the event began with a 7 a.m. breakfast at the Community Center of Northwest Texas County on Route 32. A parade starts at 10 a.m., followed by various competitions.
Several vendors will also be on site.
Here’s a schedule of other events: 9 a.m. parade line-up at Walt’s, 11 a.m. turtle race, 11:30 a.m. tug-of-war, noon watermelon eating contest, 1 p.m. sack races; 1:30 p.m. egg toss, 2 p.m. hot dog eating contest and 3:30 p.m. greased pig contest.
At 7 p.m., the Roby Saddle Club will sponsor a rodeo at 14520 Highway AW at Plato. The cost is $10. (Those 10 and under are free). Concessions will be on site.
The Roby Fire Department will have a booth to handle annual fire dues.
“We have a goal to eventually collect everyone’s dues on the same day,” said Deputy Chief Trent Packer. “This will allow us to plan the year’s expenses much better if you are interested in renewing your membership dues at the fair each year. It would be a huge help to us for future planning, and we would not have to spend hundreds of dollars a year in postage stamps.”
