Child care needs in Texas County will be studied.

The Licking City Council is expected to decide in November on its participation in a countywide initiative to tackle child care in the county.

Travis Witzemann, economic developer of the City of Houston, addressed the board Oct. 14 about a program that would help improve child care alternatives in the county. He presented the program Oct. 6 to the Houston City Council, which committed $11,225 to the cause — half the cost of partnering with a statewide organization whose mission includes tackling the problem in Missouri. 

Witzemann, who asked for Licking’s participation, said he hopes to start the study in November with a plan in place by May.

The Licking council will review information and make a decision at its next meeting, which is 6 p.m. the second Tuesday each month.
