The Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra will present “Let Freedom Ring” for its fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in the Historic Star Theater in Willow Springs. Tickets at the door are $10 and children under 5 are free. Veterans are free.
There will be a medley of classic patriotic pieces, including “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” “National Emblem March,” “America the Beautiful,” “Band of Brothers,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” and “Armed Forces – The Pride of America.”
The orchestra includes musicians from surrounding towns, including current and former music teachers from Ava, Cabool, Houston, Mountain Grove, Mountain View, Thayer and West Plains.
Jodie Forbes, musical director and conductor since 2017, has lived in the area for more than 40 years. She has been a music teacher in Cabool, Houston and Willow Springs, and is currently giving private lessons for the STARS Foundation and playing in several musical groups during her spare time. She graduated with honors and a bachelor’s degree in education from the Dana School of Music, a part of Youngstown State University in Ohio.
