Planning for this year’s “Shop with a Hero” program in Texas County is underway, organizers say.

The program provides children in need a special Christmas experience as they shop alongside area first responders, each with a $100 budget provided through community support.

The goal is $25,000 to help 250 Texas County children. Checks can be made payable to Houston Lions Club. Put “Shop with a Hero” in the memo line. The contact is Bennie Cook at 417-260-2382.

Agencies listed as participating are: Texas County Sheriff’s Department, Licking Police Department, Licking Rural Fire Department, Houston Police Department, Raymondville Fire Department, Cabool Fire Department, Summersville Fire and Rescue, Tyrone Fire Department, Clear Springs Fire Department, Roby Fire Department, Plato Fire Department, Cabool Police Department, Houston Fire Department and South Central Correctional Center.
