After a Houston Police Department investigation of an incident at Walmart on Nov. 15, a Licking man is charged with a felony for illegally possessing a gun.

Dameon M. Berry, born in 2001, of Cadel Road in Licking, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm (a class C felony).

At about 10:53 a.m., an HPD officer was dispatched to Walmart regarding a report of a man wearing a holster with a 9-millimeter pistol in it. The officer made contact with a man at the store who said he had previously been threatened by Berry and that Berry had made additional statements to him that day.

The officer reportedly asked Berry if he was a convicted felon and he replied that he wasn’t. But a computer check of Berry’s criminal history revealed a felony property damage conviction in Michigan in November of 2022, meaning he is not eligible to possess a gun, said a report.

Berry was arrested. Cash-only bond in the case is set at $4,000.

  1. What a bunch of B.S. – if a person’s felony conviction is non-violent, and didn’t involve a firearm, then there is no cause for the loss of 2nd amendment rights.
