Houston will celebrate the first Emmett Kelly Sr. Day in Missouri on April 25, 2026.
The Missouri General Assembly passed legislation to create the recognition, and Gov. Mike Kehoe signed it into law.
Houston traditionally celebrates Kelly — who grew up on a farm east of the town — with an annual festival the last Saturday of April. The state day was selected to coincide with the event that draws thousands to the Texas County seat.
Plans are already underway for the 2026 version that honors Kelly, the sad-face clown, whose originality and talent captured audiences in entertainment venues worldwide for more than six decades.
The day features dozens of activities and special entertainment. A lineup will be announced soon. Follow updates here: downtownhoustonmo.org.
