Tracy Hughes is leaving Houston Schools to return to Raymondville, where she will be the district’s next superintendent.
Hughes, who served multiple roles in her hometown before coming to Houston in 2022 as middle school principal, was hired Monday night by the Raymondville Board of Education. She replaces Dana Buschmann, who was recently announced as the next director of the Exceptional Child Education Cooperative.
Hughes, a 1999 Licking graduate, worked at Raymondville from 2016 to 2022 as a third-grade teacher, sixth-eighth grade math instructor, athletic director and curriculum director. She was the assistant principal when she joined Houston Schools.
Hughes earned a bachelor’s degree from Drury University in psychology/sociology/criminology. She later received a master’s degree in education from Drury University and a master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in K-12 administration.
She began her career in education at Licking High School teaching mathematics and coaching junior high and later high school volleyball.
“Her dedication to student achievement, strong leadership background and commitment to serving her community make her an outstanding choice to lead our district forward,” Raymondville Schools shared on social media. “We are excited for the vision, experience and passion she will bring to our students, staff and families.”
