School and community leaders from across the region will gather this week for a public town hall focused on the future of rural education in Missouri.
Supporters of public education gathered last week at Raymondville in a forum attended by state Rep. Bennie Cook, R-Houston.
The meeting is Wednesday at the West Plains Civic Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The program starts at 6 p.m.
The session will center on current state legislation, school funding issues and how proposed changes could affect rural districts.
Duane Martin, an education advocate and attorney with EDCounsel, will serve as the keynote speaker, offering insight into policy developments and challenges facing small schools.
Organizers say the town hall is open to the public and encourage parents, educators and community members to attend and take part in the discussion about the future of rural schools.
