The Houston Board of Education recognized a retirement and multiple resignations while also making several hirings during the closed session of Tuesday’s monthly board meeting.
A resignation was accepted from custodian Mark Crisp, who is resigning at the end of the current school year.
The district’s IT director, Kelsen Gilbert, resigned his position effective March 27. Resignations were also accepted from Laura Twyford (food service) effective April 10 and Benn Sullins (middle school science) at the end of the current school year.
Hirings for the current school year included Beth Smith (substitute nurse), Jamie Team (food service cook), Sandra Scurlock (food service substitute) and Deanna Sillyman (food service substitute).
Extended contracts for the 2026-27 school year in the high school were: Hannah Evans (high school English), Melissa Creek (high school social studies) and Rebecca Clark (probationary teacher contract).
Extended contracts for the 2026-27 school year at the Exceptional Child Cooperative were: Pandy Bratt (psych examiner), Christine Gregory (diagnostician), Caroline Lurie (occupational therapist), John Jordan (diagnostician), Alicia Thomas (CRT trainer), Robin Wallace (CRT trainer), Lacey Spivey (CRT trainer) and Hailea Martin (speech-language pathologist).
A 10-day extended contract was approved for Hillary Mumaw at the ECC for the 2026-27 school year.
Also during the 1 hour, 14 minute closed session, Dr. Justin Copley, superintendent, updated the board regarding a legal matter.
