The Texas County Sheriff's Department was called to handle a variety of investigations.
  • On April 29, a deputy was dispatched regarding a domestic incident at a Boone Creek Road residence at Licking involving a blow to the head with a flashlight.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a 37-year-old man who said he and his 33-year-old wife had been in an argument over her suspecting him of having a second phone and hiding it. He said he displayed the only phone he has in front of her face and it bumped her glasses. He said she responded by striking him in the right temple with a flashlight.

The deputy reported observing a bump on the side of the man’s head.

The officer then spoke with the woman, and she told a similar story, but added that the man had bumped her into some boxes, causing her to fall. She did admit to hitting him with a flashlight.

The deputy explained to the pair that the woman appeared to be the primary aggressor. She was taken to the Texas County Jail for a 12-hour hold period.

  • On April 23, a deputy investigated a Children’s Division report of an incident at a Lundy Road residence at Houston.

A Children’s Division investigator on the scene made contact with a 33-year-old woman there and explained that a hotline report received indicated that the woman’s infant son had burns on his right cheek and right wrist consistent with those caused by a cigarette. The woman said her 46-year-old father-in-law had been babysitting while she was at work and was outside smoking while the baby was lying in his stroller.

She said the man had flicked a cherry from his cigarette and it was caught by the wind and landed on the baby’s face. The investigator reportedly later spoke to the man, and he said that when it happened, he couldn’t react fast enough to prevent the child from being burned. The determination was made that the burns were not intentional, and the burn on the wrist was caused when the baby brought his arm up to his face.

The deputy and Children’s Division investigator agreed that the incident didn’t involve malicious intent. The parties involved were advised to more cautious and to avoid smoking near the baby.
