Plato sophomore Maci Shalbot has scored runs in 2026 at a pace unlike anyone else in state history.
Shalbot touched home plate for the 72nd time in the Lady Eagles’ quarterfinal victory Wednesday to establish a new Missouri State High School Activities Association record. The previous mark was 71 runs by Madison Marie Uptegrove of Father Tolton in 2023.
Shalbot will have two more opportunities to add to her record-setting mark as Plato competes Monday in the Class 1 state semifinals. The Lady Eagles (25-7) face Oak Ridge at 1 p.m. in Springfield.
Shalbot, who was a second team all-state selection her freshman season, currently ranks 13th in state history with 2.18 runs scored per game.
Houston’s McNiell will also join run list
Another area softball player will also be joining the single-season runs scored list.
Houston’s Gracyn McNiell scored a program-record 56 times this season, which would currently tie for the 33rd most in state history. Her average of 2.15 runs per game would rank just behind Shalbot at 14th.
