Donald William Hines (Boogerman) was born to Olive Hines and Evelyn (Sample) Hines on Feb. 14, 1943. He departed this life on Oct. 16, 2026. Making him 83 years old.

Don married Linda Young and to this union they were blessed with two sons: Gregory Don and Daniel Wade.

Don later married Janie (Hubbard) Jordan in 1972. Janie brought a daughter to this union, Barbara Sue. They were also blessed with a son, Elmer William.

Don spent all of his life logging. He started around the age of 13 with his dad using a team of mules. He later went on his own with a truck and boom loader, at times teaching his daughter Barb to operate, but mostly hiring several locals and friends, teaching them the ropes. When his son Elmer was around the age of 13, he took him to the woods and put him to work. He was later able to buy a skidder and a loader. Elmer continued to work with his dad off and on as Don continued to log until he was 82, getting a load or two a week in his later years mostly by himself.

In his younger years, Don enjoyed racing. He drove a ‘57 Chevy, owned by Butch Tate, which was called “Plum Crazy” not only because it was the color plum purple but also because of the driver. Don would push that car to the limit and loved to see the speeds he could get out of it on the track. He raced on the drag strip in West Plains on Saturday and Sunday, winning several trophies, including one that stood five feet.

Don is remembered by a lot of people for his talent in music. He played the bass guitar mostly and sang a lot in a band for many years at local bars. His son learned to play the drums and played with Don sometimes. When the band split up, Don continued his love for music by doing karaoke. He would go to local events of friends, like parties or weddings, and be the DJ or let them sing.

Don is survived by his children: Barbara Tuttle of Summersville, Greg (Liezl) of West Plains, Danny Hines of West Plains, Elmer (Arlene) Hines of Summersville; 12 grandchildren: Angie, Jason (Des) and Melissa (Runt); Stephanie (Keisha), Michelle (Jeff) and Julianne; Dallas; Cassandra, Lilly, Caitlin, Kendall and Zachary, as well as 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Janie; a brother, Elmer; and a sister, Marie Hockman; a son-in-law, Donald Tuttle; as well as two great-grandchildren: Hanna and Gabbi.

Don had many friends throughout his life and will be missed by all. We all take comfort in knowing he is in heaven holding his great-grandbabies and being with his other family members who went before him.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Houston. Services are under the care of Bradford Funeral Home and online condolences may be left at www.bradfordfuneralhome.net.
