Texas County entered Thursday at the No. 4 position on the state leaderboard for the spring firearms turkey season.

Texas County hunters had killed 513 turkeys by early Thursday, according to figures from the Missouri Department of Conservation.

In the county, 421 adult gobblers, 88 juvenile gobblers and four bearded hens were harvested.

Leading the state were: Franklin (638), Callaway (561), Osage (525), Texas (513), Macon (488) and Miller (485).

The season ends May 5.
