The Animal Shelter of Texas County will host a grand opening event Saturday at its Bark Plaza Hotel for Pets.

The Animal Shelter of Texas County (TASTC) will host an event this Saturday to recognize the opening of its Bark Plaza Pet Hotel on the shelter’s Highway 17 property about two miles east of Houston.

The Bark Plaza is a 7,400 square-foot, park-themed facility that includes kennels for housing dozens of dogs and a section dedicated to boarding cats. Also featured will be pet grooming and training.

The Bark Plaza is expected to generate a steady flow of income that will go toward funding the cost of operating the private, non-profit shelter, which has no affiliation with a government entity and exists by way of adoption fees, fundraising events and activities, and donations from companies, organizations and individuals.

The grand opening event runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and include drawings for Tshirts, pet hotel stays and grooming. Refreshments will be served and a dog training expert will provide demonstrations every 30 minutes.
