“In response to concerns brought up during the town hall held in Roby, Mo., regarding emergency medical access during the hours the South Gate is scheduled to be closed, we would like to release the following statement,” said Fort Leonard Wood officials.

“We understand the concerns regarding the time it takes for an ambulance to respond to areas outside the South Gate compared to the time it takes for someone to drive themselves to the General Leonard Wood Community Hospital on Fort Leonard Wood. These are valid concerns. We are prepared to meet individuals at the South Gate allowing faster access to emergency medical care. To make this happen, individuals will first be required to call 911 to start this process. Our Directorate of Emergency Services has coordinated this effort with all local county 911 call centers involved. Individuals should tell the 911 operator they are driving to the hospital on Fort Leonard Wood and need assistance with the gate. We value all communities surrounding the installation and their health and well-being. We want to ensure all have access to timely and life-saving medical care.”

    1. Total Dog and Pony Show, their minds were made up months ago! He doesn’t give 2 cents about civilian lives out the south gate! Yet the military is supposed to protect Americans! Your emergency response to open the back gate for emergencies was stated 20 minute response, that’s ludicrous! Lives will be lost and blood will be on your hands Ft. Leonard Wood!

    2. You’re absolutely correct. He had ZERO intentions of changing anything. He went to the meeting just to appease the community. He doesn’t even care about his own troops and families. He’s not very smart and absolutely arrogant.

  1. Totally unacceptable, that requires communication between several departments and the response by an MP road patrol that could be as far away from the south gate as Polla Road or worse involved in another investigation. That would keep them from responding in a timely manner.
In a life or death situation I guess that the Command Staff thinks of acceptable loss of life is acceptable..
Unbelievable, but this isn’t the first time that it has been discussed.

  2. He had ZERO intentions of changing anything. He went to the meeting just to “say he did” and appease us, the community.

  3. He had ZERO intentions of changing his decision. He went to the meeting just to appease the public. That’s all.

  4. Clearly you don’t understand our concerns! Cause if that we’re the case you would have included us before shutting the gate down!

  5. No one cared about the East Gate being closed constantly. This is just people whining because they cut through post to get to I44 and now have to go around.

  6. When procedures are changed in the fed gov, (like ATF changes) they give public an opportunity to give opinion. Even with rational opinion contrary to the plan, they proceed as planned unless a legit legal argument is brought up, then they change the plan to fit what they already had in mind. I’m convinced that nothing will make a difference because as a civilian you are unimportant to the survival of the base operations during these hours or you will change your operations to meet their needs. Sucks but that’s the Fed for ya
