A Summersville man faces a trio of felony charges following a Texas County Sheriff’s Department investigation of an incident on March 14.

Derick J. Cook, born in 1991, of 23187 Shannon Lane in Summersville, is charged with second-degree assault, first-degree property damage and resisting arrest for a felony.

A deputy was dispatched to an unreported location in Summersville regarding a report of an assault. The officer made contact with two alleged victims there, and observed damage to a truck, a large amount of blood on its side and a bloody rag in its bed. The woman who owns the truck reportedly told the deputy that Cook had broken out the rear window of another vehicle at the location, so she drove her truck to a nearby residence to avoid him but he followed her.

The woman said she and Cook got into an argument, and he began to kick her truck. She then said she drove to a nearby gas station, but Cook again followed and rammed her truck with his vehicle.

Another deputy who assisted located Cook in his white GMC Yukon traveling on Highway JJ and attempted to pull it over, but the officer reportedly observed it accelerate onto Shannon Lane.

Cook stopped near his residence, and initially resisted the deputy’s commands, but became compliant when the officer drew his Taser. He was observed to have a large cut and a lot of blood on his arm, and his vehicle had damage on its front bumper.

Cook was taken to the Texas County Jail, and during questioning said he didn’t mean to assault the woman and accidentally rammed her truck.

Cash-only bond on the charges is set at $25,000.
